One of Amsterdam’s best restaurants for fine dining is the critically acclaimed La Rive. It’s known for innovative, elegant French-Mediterranean inspired dishes. Indonesian cuisine is a favorite in Amsterdam, and Sama Sebo is one of the city’s oldest and most beloved Indonesian restaurants. It’s very popular, so you’ll want to make reservations. If you're a beer lover, you'll be happy to know you can find fantastic beer in Amsterdam–visit Brouwerij 't IJ, or the IJ Brewery, for a taste of authentic beer, made right there. Located inside the former bathhouse next to the De Gooyer windmill, it’s full of local flavor. "

We're going to look at some of the traditional things that you can find on the streets of Amsterdam. It's a little bit rainy, but we're hungry. Here we go! Today I am joined by Dutch local and also YouTubber on IamEverybody. This is Robbert. Throughout Amsterdam you will find fish stalls selling a variety of fish. One of the specialities, which the Dutch love, is haring. Today we're going to try it. It's an acquired taste, huh? We've just had a look at stroopwafel or syrup waffle being made fresh. A stroopwafel, for those who don't know is a Dutch treat second to none and made fresh they're warm and delicious. I'm excited. Oh, I like how you did that Robbert. With no fear. It's better than haring, right? We're at one of the Dutch institutions, it's called Febo or food in the wall and here you can pick food out of the wall. It's one of the strangest concepts here. It's awesome! So we got a delicious sate croquet. It's just fried goodness. If you come to Amsterdam you've got to try the Febo. It's cheap and cheerful, very tasty and very convenient. It's such a cool concept. Down a narrow street near the Kalvertoren there's a place that's been making fries since 1957. We're going to grab a few now. It's raining and people are queuing for the fries. So you know they are good. Robbert's been kind to share with me. Usually people wouldn't share their chips. I'm guessing. Oh Robbert, you are terrible. No you can't feed me a chip. No thanks. I don't want it on my nose. So my favourite is the fries with peanut sauce. It's just delicious. These chips are so good, even the pigeons like it....and rightly so, they really are tasty. If you like pancakes then the Dutch equivalent is the thing for you. These are called poffertjes. Are you not going to make it fresh? Oh dear! Oh no, no, these are from yesterday. Yeah, I see so. It's fresh enough. We're having some delicious poffertjes accompanied by Hare Krishna singing, so that's really adding to the atmosphere. They're sugary, they're buttery, they're are so good. Mmmm. Lower. A little lower. We've eaten a hell of a lot. Probably more than we should have given that it's just finished Christmas. Do you want to saw something about how people can find you? No! No, alright, alright, I'll do it. Well if you want to see more videos about Amsterdam that I make, then you just go to youtube.com/IamEverybobby. Ya! And I love Robberts videos they are well worth checking out. Definitely subscribe to his channel. You're such a kiss ass. Indeed. And that's it for our tour of Amsterdam street food.

Peace Palace The Peace of Palace (Dutch: Vredespaleis; pronounced [ˈvreːdəspaˌlɛis]) is an international law administrative building in The Hague, the Netherlands. It houses the International Court of Justice (which is the principal judicial body of the United Nations), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the Hague Academy of International Law and the Peace Palace Library. The Palace officially opened on 28 August 1913, and was originally built to provide a home for the PCA, a court created to end war by the Hague Convention of 1899.Andrew Dickson White, whose efforts were instrumental in creating the court, secured from Scottish-American steel magnate Andrew Carnegie US$1.5 million ($40,000,000, adjusted for inflation) to build the Peace Palace. The European Heritage Label was awarded to the Peace Palace on 8 April 2014. Occupants The Peace Palace has been occupied at different times by a number of organisations: Andrew Carnegie (1913–present) The original occupant for which the Peace Palace was constructed. From 1901 until the opening of the Palace in 1913, the Permanent Court of Arbitration was housed at Prinsegracht 71 in The Hague. Permanent Court of International Justice (1922–1946) and its successor the International Court of Justice (1946–present). In 1922 the Permanent Court of International Justice of the League of Nations was added to the occupants. This meant the Library was forced to move to an annex building, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration was moved to the front left of the building. In 1946, when the United Nations replaced the League of Nations, the International Court of Justice was established as the UN's principal judicial organ. Peace Palace Library of International Law (1913–present). Being the original vision of Carnegie, the library grew quickly to house the best collection of material on international law. Although this stature is well in the past, the library still contains some original classical works, as the original copies of Hugo Grotius' works on peace and law and Erasmus' Querela Pacis. The Carnegie Stichting (1913–present) The Hague Academy of International Law (1923–present). Established in 1914, strongly advocated by Tobias Michael Carel Asser. Funds for the Academy came from another peace project by Andrew Carnegie, namely the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, established in 1910. Conception The idea of the Palace started from a discussion in 1900 between the Russian diplomat Friedrich Martens and American diplomat White over providing a home for the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). White contacted Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie had his reservations, and at first was only interested in donating money for the establishment of a library of international law. White, however, was able to convince Carnegie, and in 1903 Carnegie agreed to donate the US$1.5 million ($40,000,000, adjusted for inflation) needed to house the court as well as to endow it with a library of international law. White described his idea to Carnegie: Were such a fabric to be created, men would make pilgrimages from all parts of the civilized world to see it. It would become a sort of holy place, prized and revered by thinking men throughout the world, and to which, in any danger of war between any two countries, the minds of men would turn naturally and normally. The main difficulty now is that the people of the various nations do not really know what was done for them by the Conference; but such a building would make them know it. It would be an "outward and visible sign" of the Court, which would make its actual, tangible existence known to the ends of the earth". Construction To find a suitable design, the foundation called for an open international competition. The winning design, set in the Neo-Renaissance style, was submitted by French architect Louis M. Cordonnier. To build within budget, Cordonnier and his Dutch associate Van der Steur adjusted the design. The palace initially had two big bell towers in front and two small ones in the back. Only one big tower and one small tower remained in the final building. Also to save money, the separate library building from the winning design was incorporated into the Palace itself. The Palace is filled with many gifts of the different nations who attended the Second Hague Conference as a sign of their support. Among the gifts are a 3.2-tonne (3.1-long-ton; 3.5-short-ton) vase from Russia, doors from Belgium, marble from Italy, a fountain from Denmark, wall carpets from Japan, the clock for the clock tower from Switzerland, Persian rugs from Iran and wood from Indonesia and the United States of America. In 1907 the first stone was symbolically placed during the Second Hague Conference. The construction began some months later and was completed with an inauguration ceremony on 28 August 1913, attended by Andrew Carnegie, among others. World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Amsterdam - Netherlands Tourism http://bit.ly/HkbxFo Hotels in Amsterdam - Netherlands Luxury, Moderate, Cheap Amsterdam has hundreds of hotels in a broad price range, but demand often exceeds supply and rates remain among the highest in Europe. If you're planning on visiting in mid-summer, advance reservations are a must. Where you stay will depend on your situation. If nightlife is a priority, you'll be best off finding accommodation in the city centre or in the Leidseplein area, while museum-goers might prefer to find lodging near Museumplein. For help making reservations, you can contact the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board (tel 0900 400 4040 in the Netherlands, +31-20-551-2525 from abroad). For a downloadable list of Amsterdam hotels, go to the Accommodations page of . The Amsterdam hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories: Luxury (over €250) Moderate (€100 to €250) Cheap (under €100). These Amsterdam hotel prices are the starting prices for a double room, including VAT but excluding visitors' tax and breakfast, unless otherwise specified. The visitors' tax -- 5% 'city tax' - is usually added to the bill at the end, although it is a good idea to check whether it is included when making a reservation. Luxury hotels ============ The Dylan Located in the western canal belt, this small boutique hotel is the epitome of style and sophistication. It's housed in a former 17th-century theatre, which in its heyday staged concerts conducted by Antonio Vivaldi. Today, the minimalist east-meets-west designer décor of the 32 guest rooms, combined with an intimate courtyard garden, spectacular canal views, efficient staff and an excellent restaurant, ensures a luxurious stay. Hotel de l'Europe Standing majestically on the banks of the River Amstel, this grand old dame manages to stay the address in town for lavish old-world luxury. From the 19th-century paintings adorning the public areas to the plushly appointed guest rooms, the hotel maintains an old-world charm. A new annex featuring 23 suites has been opened while the original Rondeel building undergoes extensive renovations, scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Amstel InterContinental Amsterdam One of Holland's most luxurious and prestigious hotels occupies a tranquil, scenic location on the banks of the River Amstel. Since its opening in 1867, it has played host to countless kings, queens and celebrities, such as Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Madonna and members of The Rolling Stones. With opulent, traditional-style rooms of stately grandeur containing Delft porcelain, spacious conference facilities, an impressive health club and swimming pool, magnificent riverside terraces, and limousine service, the hotel fully lives up to its motto 'tradition meets excellence'. Even the restaurant, La Rive, boasts two well-deserved Michelin stars. Moderate hotels =================== 't Hotel Occupying a typically narrow canal house wedged among its neighbours, this small, family-run guesthouse holds a serene, romantic location amidst the western canal belt. It's a short hike from either Dam Square or the Anne Frank House. Three of the eight spacious, stylishly appointed guest rooms afford views of the Leliegracht canal, while the others overlook a neighbour's garden. Seven Bridges This delightful, quiet guest house counts among the city's best value options, and guests are assured a warm welcome. It is ideally located on one of the loveliest canals, just a stone's throw from lively Rembrandtplein. Each of the 11 stylish doubles is individually furnished with antiques, and there are hand-painted tiles in the en-suite bathrooms. It's vital to book in advance. NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky A popular business traveller's choice, this is one of the largest congress hotels in Benelux with 468 rooms. Brahms, Mahler, Conrad and Joyce are among its celebrated former guests, and it was here that Omar Sharif worked for a spell as a porter, having lost badly at the poker table. Located on Dam Square opposite the Royal Palace, it exudes calm, efficiency and comfort. Excellent dining options include the celebrated art deco Winter Garden. Cheap hotels ================ The Quentin Hotel A curved structure overlooking a pretty section of the Leidsekade canal, the Quentin Hotel is usefully placed near Leidseplein and the Vondelpark. Approached by a typically steep staircase (or elevator), the 50 recently renovated rooms vary greatly in layout. Most are tiny with high ceilings and canal views. You'll feel snug and secure here, and the helpful, young staff will get you oriented.
