So you want to visit Amsterdam? Excellent choice! Now, rather than staying in a dull hotel room or hostel, wouldn't it be a lot more fun having the same comfort that you're used to at home? Prepare your own meals and sleep in whenever you want to and not have to worry about making it on time for breakfast? Have enough space to move? Booking an apartment through any of the websites by Short Stay Group enables you to do just that. So, how does this work? Once you've chosen the apartment you like and decide to book it, you will be asked to pay a pre-payment first, which is a certain percentage of the total costs, depending on the apartment provider. This payment ensures your booking, after which you will receive an e-mail confirmation from us, as well as the arrival information that contains everything you need for getting to your apartment as soon as possible. Make sure you print out these documents and take them along with you on your journey. It is important to know that every apartment that we offer belongs to a different apartment provider, each with their own check-in procedure and set of rules. These are all very alike, but with small differences. In this video we will cover the check-in process that applies to both the Boutique Apartment Services and Amsterdam Locations (http://www.amsterdamlocations.com) providers, which cover most of the apartments that we offer. There are 3 ways of checking in: If you're flying into The Netherlands and land at Schiphol airport, you can check-in at the airport itself by going to the Short Stay Group desk, which can be found on the 1st floor opposite Schiphol check-in desk 8. It is open from 9 am till 10 pm. The second method is by going to the apartment provider office in the centre of Amsterdam, which has the same opening hours. You will find directions on how to get there in your arrival information e-mail. The 3rd way is by doing a so called "Personal check-in", which takes place at the apartment itself. You can arrange one by contacting the check-in desk prior to arrival, after which one of our colleagues will meet you at the apartment. Note that normal check-in times for all methods are between 2 and 10 pm. If you want to check-in before or after this time there are additional costs attached to it and you have to contact the check-in desk prior to arrival in order to arrange it. At check-in first you'll be asked to identify yourself by showing your passport, id card or drivers license. You then need to clear the outstanding balance due and security deposit, preferably by credit card. After this you will receive the key, as well as directions to the apartment. Once you leave the apartment at the end of your stay you simply leave the keys on the table inside the apartment and close the door behind you. It's that simple! Amsterdam food has a lot of delicious options on offer. Amsterdam street food is varied and delicious, though admittedly not very healthy. This time we explored some of Amsterdam's best street food including haring, fresh warm stroopwafels, Febo, friet (fries) with peanut sauce (sate sauce) and poffertjes or Dutch mini pancakes. This time we were joined by Dutch local and fellow youTuber Robbert Munsters. Music used: Net B Package Equipment used: Canon 70D Transcript: Today we're in Amsterdam. We're going to check out the food scene. We're going to look at street food. We're going to look at some of the traditional things that you can find on the streets of Amsterdam. It's a little bit rainy, but we're hungry. Here we go! Today I am joined by Dutch local and also YouTubber on IamEverybody. This is Robbert. Throughout Amsterdam you will find fish stalls selling a variety of fish. One of the specialities, which the Dutch love, is haring. Today we're going to try it. It's an acquired taste, huh? We've just had a look at stroopwafel or syrup waffle being made fresh. A stroopwafel, for those who don't know is a Dutch treat second to none and made fresh they're warm and delicious. I'm excited. Oh, I like how you did that Robbert. With no fear. It's better than haring, right? We're at one of the Dutch institutions, it's called Febo or food in the wall and here you can pick food out of the wall. It's one of the strangest concepts here. It's awesome! So we got a delicious sate croquet. It's just fried goodness. If you come to Amsterdam you've got to try the Febo. It's cheap and cheerful, very tasty and very convenient. It's such a cool concept. Down a narrow street near the Kalvertoren there's a place that's been making fries since 1957. We're going to grab a few now. It's raining and people are queuing for the fries. So you know they are good. Robbert's been kind to share with me. Usually people wouldn't share their chips. I'm guessing. Oh Robbert, you are terrible. No you can't feed me a chip. No thanks. I don't want it on my nose. So my favourite is the fries with peanut sauce. It's just delicious. These chips are so good, even the pigeons like it....and rightly so, they really are tasty. If you like pancakes then the Dutch equivalent is the thing for you. These are called poffertjes. Are you not going to make it fresh? Oh dear! Oh no, no, these are from yesterday. Yeah, I see so. It's fresh enough. We're having some delicious poffertjes accompanied by Hare Krishna singing, so that's really adding to the atmosphere. They're sugary, they're buttery, they're are so good. Mmmm. Lower. A little lower. We've eaten a hell of a lot. Probably more than we should have given that it's just finished Christmas. Do you want to saw something about how people can find you? No! No, alright, alright, I'll do it. Well if you want to see more videos about Amsterdam that I make, then you just go to youtube.com/IamEverybobby. Ya! And I love Robberts videos they are well worth checking out. Definitely subscribe to his channel. You're such a kiss ass. Indeed. And that's it for our tour of Amsterdam street food.

Peace Palace The Peace of Palace (Dutch: Vredespaleis; pronounced [ˈvreːdəspaˌlɛis]) is an international law administrative building in The Hague, the Netherlands. It houses the International Court of Justice (which is the principal judicial body of the United Nations), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the Hague Academy of International Law and the Peace Palace Library. The Palace officially opened on 28 August 1913, and was originally built to provide a home for the PCA, a court created to end war by the Hague Convention of 1899.Andrew Dickson White, whose efforts were instrumental in creating the court, secured from Scottish-American steel magnate Andrew Carnegie US$1.5 million ($40,000,000, adjusted for inflation) to build the Peace Palace. The European Heritage Label was awarded to the Peace Palace on 8 April 2014. Occupants The Peace Palace has been occupied at different times by a number of organisations: Andrew Carnegie (1913–present) The original occupant for which the Peace Palace was constructed. From 1901 until the opening of the Palace in 1913, the Permanent Court of Arbitration was housed at Prinsegracht 71 in The Hague. Permanent Court of International Justice (1922–1946) and its successor the International Court of Justice (1946–present). In 1922 the Permanent Court of International Justice of the League of Nations was added to the occupants. This meant the Library was forced to move to an annex building, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration was moved to the front left of the building. In 1946, when the United Nations replaced the League of Nations, the International Court of Justice was established as the UN's principal judicial organ. Peace Palace Library of International Law (1913–present). Being the original vision of Carnegie, the library grew quickly to house the best collection of material on international law. Although this stature is well in the past, the library still contains some original classical works, as the original copies of Hugo Grotius' works on peace and law and Erasmus' Querela Pacis. The Carnegie Stichting (1913–present) The Hague Academy of International Law (1923–present). Established in 1914, strongly advocated by Tobias Michael Carel Asser. Funds for the Academy came from another peace project by Andrew Carnegie, namely the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, established in 1910. Conception The idea of the Palace started from a discussion in 1900 between the Russian diplomat Friedrich Martens and American diplomat White over providing a home for the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). White contacted Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie had his reservations, and at first was only interested in donating money for the establishment of a library of international law. White, however, was able to convince Carnegie, and in 1903 Carnegie agreed to donate the US$1.5 million ($40,000,000, adjusted for inflation) needed to house the court as well as to endow it with a library of international law. White described his idea to Carnegie: Were such a fabric to be created, men would make pilgrimages from all parts of the civilized world to see it. It would become a sort of holy place, prized and revered by thinking men throughout the world, and to which, in any danger of war between any two countries, the minds of men would turn naturally and normally. The main difficulty now is that the people of the various nations do not really know what was done for them by the Conference; but such a building would make them know it. It would be an "outward and visible sign" of the Court, which would make its actual, tangible existence known to the ends of the earth". Construction To find a suitable design, the foundation called for an open international competition. The winning design, set in the Neo-Renaissance style, was submitted by French architect Louis M. Cordonnier. To build within budget, Cordonnier and his Dutch associate Van der Steur adjusted the design. The palace initially had two big bell towers in front and two small ones in the back. Only one big tower and one small tower remained in the final building. Also to save money, the separate library building from the winning design was incorporated into the Palace itself. The Palace is filled with many gifts of the different nations who attended the Second Hague Conference as a sign of their support. Among the gifts are a 3.2-tonne (3.1-long-ton; 3.5-short-ton) vase from Russia, doors from Belgium, marble from Italy, a fountain from Denmark, wall carpets from Japan, the clock for the clock tower from Switzerland, Persian rugs from Iran and wood from Indonesia and the United States of America. In 1907 the first stone was symbolically placed during the Second Hague Conference. The construction began some months later and was completed with an inauguration ceremony on 28 August 1913, attended by Andrew Carnegie, among others.
